Mission

The Modern Montessori School aims to provide a safe and stimulating environment for children to develop to their full potential. MMS prepares students for the real world by providing them with a multilayered curriculum that gears them towards forming their local identities and is integrated within the context of a global society to which they belong. MMS believes in involving all stakeholders in the educational journey of their students, in order to provide them with the best possible educational experience.

Vision

The Modern Montessori School is dedicated to innovation in teaching and learning. Through the International Baccalaureate (IB) philosophy and a wide variety of extracurricular activities, MMS will lead in Jordan and the region in ingenuity and excellence. We strive to provide learners with an inclusive educational environment with equal opportunities for all. MMS aims to equip students with innovative tools to address global issues and to make a positive contribution in the lives of generations to come.

Philosophy

We believe that every student has limitless worth and potential, and this ‘approach to life’, as Dr. Maria Montessori puts it, is at the heart of our philosophy. MMS aims to provide students with the skills and the confidence needed to use their abilities to the fullest, enabling them to define their goals and achieve success. We believe that by providing students with a nurturing environment, we allow each student to fulfill his/her potential. Our diverse and dynamic education system encourages every student to develop his or her own talent, while respecting differences and being responsible members of their communities.

We aim to graduate independent thinkers and self-motivated individuals who will continue to challenge themselves to expand their thirst for being lifelong learners and play an integral part in their community. MMS strives to instill a deeply rooted sense of identity in students while promoting international-mindedness with a strong understanding, appreciation and respect for the diversity of cultures and individuals. We seek to ensure that our rigorous academic and rich extracurricular programs work harmoniously and in tandem to provide students with a holistic and purposeful learning experience.

High-Quality Teaching & Learning

While teaching and learning are connected in many ways, we at MMS approach them as two separate, but equally important, processes. With that being said, we do recognize the need to place an emphasis on building a better understanding of the learning process, which serves as a foundation for practicing quality teaching. At MMS, high-quality learning is conducted within a caring community of learners who are essentially guided by the MMS mission and vision along with a shared set of values. High-quality learning is based on several core principles:

  1. Provide different learning opportunities through multiple means of engagement, representation, action and expression, different styles of learning are accounted for at the outset, reducing the need to personalize every activity.
  2. Promote student ownership and autonomy over their unique learning through self-reflection.
  3. Promote students’ collaboration to enhance learning boundaries.
  4. Foster a safe and positive learning culture for learners to become self- motivated at the same time considering the learner’s mental, physical and emotional needs. .
  5. Integrate the use of technology and other resources to increase the level of student engagement with the learning objectives.
  6. Validate intercultural learning through application of authentic real-life situations and local/global issues (including inequality, racism, prejudice, and stereotyping), to develop a better understanding of interconnectedness and interdependency of different countries and populations.

Based on the above, teachers can practice high-quality teaching that is characterized by the following:

  • Ongoing review of taught curricula to ensure that the planning and execution of lessons that are highly effective for learners and are relevant to the local and global contexts.
  • Engaging students in active learning. (gamification, hands-on learning, collaboration, and choice of topic)
  • Setting clear learning goals that are incremental and scaffolded in a language that is meaningful to students.
  • Providing feedback that is explicit, timely, informative, and accessible to allow learners to monitor their own progress effectively and to use that information to guide their own effort and practice.
  • Assessing prior knowledge and use diagnostic assessments as a tool to help identify the areas of strength and weakness, thus adjust content and learning engagements to encourage more effective learning.
  • Creating a classroom climate that fosters student learning and social-emotional well-being.
  • Building teachers’ effective support networks and identifying professional development programs.

Global Citizeship

We aim to prepare internationally minded students who, while fully aware of the elements of their local identity and culture, are also understanding, respectful, tolerant and embracing of other cultures. Global citizenship is a set of values, skills and attitudes that we seek our community of learners to adopt and practice in order to become active members of a global society; members who are able to make responsible decisions and dynamically engage with global issues that concern the wider world community. The cementing bond of global citizens remains simply humanity.
